I'll explain a little bit about the name Okeechobee's
Lake Okeechobee ( pronounced O-Key-Cho-Bee ) got its name from two indian words, "Okee" meaning (Big) and "Chobee" meaning (Water), located in South Central Florida. Big "O" lies geographically in the center of the state. Okeechobee is famous for its bass, bluegil, shellcracker fishing and duck hunting. Down through history, it has known as Mayaimi, Lake Mayacco and Lake Mayoco. For almost 300 years, the great body of water covering approximately one-half million acres, and with 135 miles of shore-line, lay undiscovered in Florida's interior, surrounded by myth and legends.
